In a move to compete with Regus on a global level, Servcorp has opened two new locations in Japan. Servcorp is already going head-to-head with Regus in the Asian nation with serviced offices and virtual offices in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. Now, the second-largest serviced office company is opening additional office space in Tokyo’s Marunouchi Trust Tower and Fukuoka’s Da Vinci Fukuoka Tenjin.

“Servcorp’s premium floors are equipped with the latest IT services Servcorp has to offer,” says Olga Vlietstra, general manager for Servcorp’s operations in Japan. “In addition, we will provide our clients with the highly systematic infrastructure of an international organization, giving them the opportunity to utilize Servcorp’s global network of offices, while focusing on their core business objectives.”

Budget-Minded Entrepreneurs Explore Virtual Offices

Bootstrapping, budget-minded entrepreneurs are exploring virtual offices in a down economy. But it’s not just the affordable monthly costs that has start-ups jumping on the virtual office bandwagon (and it’s not just the down economy, either) it’s the affordable start-up costs that make good sense for companies of all sizes.

Telecommuting: More Productive, Less Expensive

Remember when you first heard about the concept of telecommuting? Most companies couldn’t imagine how this concept could benefit them.

Buckhead Midtown Office Suites Offers Free Rent in Atlanta

Buckhead Midtown Office Suites bills itself as Atlanta’s top choice for affordable executive office suites. The tagline caught my attention, so I decided to check it out.

One of the first things I noticed is that the serviced office provider is offering free rent. “Free” always gets your attention, doesn’t it? Buckhead Midtown Office Suites doesn’t explain anywhere on its Web site how you get that free rent, how long it lasts, or any other details. But it is enough to cause me to dive a little deeper and see what else they have to offer.

Commercial real estate turnaround not imminent, experts say

The weather may be frosty, but South Florida’s commercial real estate leaders will spend this evening talking about where rays of sunshine may penetrate the gloom.

Robert Cruz, Miami-Dade County’s chief economist, said that many elements of stability need to be in place before there’s a sustainable market recovery, and that may take more of 2010 than optimists would like.

“The financial sector remains weak and many things need to happen before we will see more robust growth,” Cruz said. “But compared to where we have been, I see positive signs internationally — and that means there will be more demand for U.S. products as we move into the future. Housing and construction will be the last segment to recover.”

Patent Battle Between Nokia and Apple Escalates

The patent duel between Apple and Nokia is getting decidedly more aggressive in the new year. Both handset makers took swings over the past few days in a legal battle that shows no signs of simmering down before it gets hotter.

On Friday, Apple filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), an independent federal agency that, among other things, directs actions against unfair trade practices involving patent, trademark and copyright infringement. The commission has the authority to order U.S. customs officials to block goods from entering the U.S.

In filing a complaint with the ITC, Apple is fighting fire with fire. In late December, Nokia filed a similar ITC complaint against the iPhone maker for allegedly infringing on its patents in virtually all of Apple’s mobile phones, music players, and computers. Apple’s tit-for-tat move suggests it has no intention of backing down without a fight.
