Microsoft Readies Six Security Updates

July 6th, 2007

Microsoft is getting ready to release six security updates on Tuesday in a release that will include fixes for critical vulnerabilities in Windows, Excel, and .NET. Specifically, July’s Patch Tuesday will offer three updates for Windows, two for the Office productivity suite, and one for .NET.The three vulnerabilities marked “critical” allow execution of remote code, meaning hackers attempting to exploit the vulnerability could remotely plant malicious software on unpatched computers.

The new round of updates also will fix two “important” vulnerabilities, one in Publisher and one in Window XP Professional, along with one “moderate” vulnerability in Windows Vista. The flaws ranked “important” can allow hackers to execute code from a remote location, while the flaws ranked “moderate” allow hackers to obtain information but not necessarily plant malware.
