Microsoft Set To Patch Animated Cursor Flaw Early

After skipping Patch Tuesday in March, Microsoft Relevant Products/Services plans to release an out-of-cycle patch on April 3 to fix a dangerous Windows animated cursor vulnerability that has the security world watching.”From our ongoing monitoring of the situation, we can say that over this weekend attacks against this vulnerability have increased somewhat. Additionally, we are aware of public disclosure of proof-of-concept code,” Christopher Budd, of the Microsoft Security Resource Center, wrote in the MSRC blog on Sunday night.

Although Microsoft plans to issue the patch on Tuesday, there are no guarantees. Budd said the security team is still testing the fix to ensure quality and hinted that the software giant might be forced to delay the release.

Do Web Readers Consume More News?

According to the Poynter Institute’s EyeTrack07 survey, Web news readers have a greater attention span than print news readers. The study, which seeks to dispel the myth that claimed the opposite, could catch the eyes of advertisers looking to get the biggest return on their investment.Conducted by the Poynter Institute, a Florida-based journalism school, the EyeTrack07 survey found that a much larger percentage of story text was read, on average, by online readers than print readers. In total, 77 percent of online readers read their selected text while broadsheet newspaper readers read only about 62 percent of their chosen story and tabloid readers about 57 percent.
