Wanted: Online Press Rooms

March 28th, 2006

Few things irk a reporter more than visiting a corporate web site that is difficult to navigate. Sometimes it takes so long to find the contact information that I am tempted to give up. (It takes me so long because it’s buried like a hidden treasure on a Caribbean isle.)

Other times information on the site is outdated and, when I finally do discover the coveted contact info, my e-mail bounces right back (sometimes days later). And no phone number is listed. I have to ask those companies: Do you want reporters to contact you or not?

Much the same, if the online press room is hard to find, or if there is not a virtual press room at all, it causes frustration to ooze into the heart of the harried journalist. Reporters like well resourced online press rooms because it allows them to get a quick history on the firm.

A well-designed online press room can pay dividends for you that go beyond a profile on your firm. Who knows? You may be mentioned as part of a larger trend story even if the reporter isn’t able to reach you (because they can’t find your contact information on your web site)…
